So you've decided its time to take your skincare more seriously, thats great news...but where to start?
It can be overwhelming when you start looking at all the skin care products out there on the market, so we've put together a simple guide to help get you started.
You want to be cleansing your face morning and night, but lets just start with night, so we are removing all the daily grime and allowing the creams and serums that follow to be applied to cleaned skin.
AM - Sunscreen (absolute must), whether you are indoors, outdoors or driving a car, truck or other motor vehicle.
PM
1 ) Face Cleansers
You can choose any face cleaners you like, ideally if you wear sunscreen you need an oil base cleanser to remove it, or a face cloth/washer (more buffing power). You could also do a double cleanse with your chosen cleaners to help remove the sunscreen and daily grime.
2) Serums
The serums are the tricky bit but they are also the one product (aside from cleansing your skin and sunscreen) that will make the biggest difference to your skin.
Probably best to just start with one serum, and see how your skin responds and by getting into a routine you'll be more adapt for when it gets more complicated (or fun) with multiple serums and masks.
The best way to assess your skin is to look in the mirror and what is the first thing you see. Is it clogged pores? Do you feel as though you have fine lines? Pigmentation (darker skin patches)? Once you've identified the skin condition you'd most like to improve you can look for the serum to help fix it.
Best serums for;
Anti aging - Retinol (helps with skin turn over), collagen, hyaluronic acid
Dehydration - Hyaluronic acid, (face scrubs and moisturisers help too)
Pigmentation - AHAs, Retinols, Vit C, Niacinamide
Pore Refinement - BHA - Salicylic Acid,
3 ) Moisturisers
Depending on your skin type (dry, oily, combination) you want to choose a cream that feels like its absorbing and not sitting on the skin, in general there are so many everyday face moisturisers, which one isn't as important as long as you do it.
